Sustainable EAERE 2012
The Local Organising Committee has used the conference catering as an opportunity to support and introduce an example of social enterprise activities being carried out here in Prague. The catering service for the welcome reception and during the scientific programme will be provided by InBáze Berkat. In order to create new jobs for migrants and to earn own funds for integration activities this civic association has developed a social enterprise project - Ethnocatering, where a group of women migrants cook and serve delicacies of their traditional cuisine (Georgian, Armenian, Afghan, etc.).
CO2 offsets collected this year during the registration will be used by the local civic association Pro krajinu, o.s. Each conference participant purchasing the CO2 offset will obtain a certificate of a tree that will be planted thanks to his or her offset. Pro krajinu, o.s. was founded in 2008 to contribute to involve the general public and school children in nature and landscape conservation in harmony with local conditions and in reference to the historical development of Czech countryside. Since 2008 the association has participated in numerous projects that have helped landowners, farmers, schools and other stakeholders to enrich their lands with trees, bushes, and other environmentally sound landscape elements. So far the association has managed to plant and grow some 3500 trees. CO2 offset appointed money will be used for planting a further approximately 200 local species of trees that will contribute to the diversity and environmental value of the Czech landscape and by involving the public in this process will spread understanding of the importance of landscape diversity and the environment in general.
